Two churches, one mission
St. John and First are formally independent from one another. Each has its own elders and its own constitution. However, they both belong to the United Church of Christ and, as of 2021, share a pastor. More importantly, they share a desire to further the mission of Jesus in the world through worship, hospitality, and service.
Pastor Mark Roeda
From the mid-nineties to late aughts, Pastor Mark was a campus minister-- first at Kent State with the CCO and then at Campus Chapel at the University of Michigan. He served a church in South Bend for seven years after that. A couple years pursuing other career paths ultimately led him back to parish ministry-- with St. John starting in the summer of 2019 and First Bremen in the summer 2021.
In addition to entering the twilight years of a basketball career of little significance outside his own head, he can get way too invested in typefaces, Kapla blocks, documentary films, and many other things. So many other things.
His wife Jenn does amazing work as a therapist for Mosaic Health and Healing Arts. They have three dang cool kids-- Alison, Arden, and Michael.
Holly has served First UCC Bremen as your secretary since the summer of 2021. She lives in Bremen with her husband, Deron, whom locals recognize from his work at Woodie’s Supermarket. They have two children, Logan and Emma, and two dogs, Bailey and Charlie.
Holly's office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
videos from 2020
With the pandemic requiring us to worship online in 2020, we collaborated with other churches in the area. Each of the pastors contributing a video or two each week. Here are a few.
